Medical Screening & Intake Process

Your safety is the foundation of our work.

Plant medicine ceremonies are profound experiences that can offer deep healing, but they are not suitable for everyone. To ensure the safety and well-being of every participant, we require a thorough medical screening process before you join a ceremony.

This process is not meant to be an obstacle. It is an act of care—for you, for the group, and for the integrity of the medicine itself.

What We Ask of You

Before your ceremony, you will be asked to complete a confidential medical questionnaire. We ask about:

  • Medical conditions — including but not limited to heart conditions, high or low blood pressure, diabetes, epilepsy, liver or kidney disease, and any past or current mental health diagnoses.

  • Medications — both prescription and over-the-counter, including antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs), antipsychotics, blood thinners, and medications for blood pressure or diabetes.

  • Substances — alcohol, recreational drugs, or plant medicines you have taken recently.

  • Past experiences — with psychedelics or plant medicine, and any history of trauma or psychiatric hospitalization.

Everything you share is treated with strict confidentiality and is reviewed only by our screening team.

Why This Matters

Certain medications and conditions can create serious risks when combined with plant medicine. For example:

  • MAOIs and SSRIs can interact dangerously with compounds like ayahuasca or psilocybin, potentially leading to serotonin syndrome.

  • Heart conditions and blood pressure medications may be contraindicated due to the cardiovascular effects of some plant medicines.

  • Lithium and antipsychotics can have severe interactions.

By disclosing your full medical picture, you allow us to either:

  1. Approve your participation with any necessary precautions,

  2. Recommend a modified approach or a different ceremony format, or

  3. Advise you to postpone until it is safe for you to participate.

The Waiver

Upon arrival at the ceremony, you will be asked to read and sign a liability waiver and informed consent form. This document confirms that:

  • You have disclosed all relevant medical information truthfully and completely.

  • You understand the nature of the ceremony and its potential risks.

  • You accept personal responsibility for your participation.

  • You release the facilitators and organization from liability within the bounds of the law.

Signing the waiver is not a formality. It is a final confirmation that you have been honest with us and with yourself about your readiness.

Our Commitment to You

We do not share your information with anyone outside our screening team. We do not judge your history, your medications, or your diagnoses. Our only goal is to keep you safe and to ensure the medicine can do its work without harm.

If you are unsure whether you qualify, or if you have questions about your medications or conditions, please contact us before registering. We would rather have a conversation now than turn someone away at the door—or worse, put someone at risk.

Your honesty protects you. Our screening protects everyone.
