MILENIO: From France, the US and Germany travel to Mexico to try "toad medicine"

From the United States, Germany, France, Italy and, of course, Mexico, dozens of people attended the annual event, on July 1, of this small Seri community to celebrate the new year of the ethnic group and, at the same time, try the traditional “medicine” of the Otac toad, Bufo Alvarius, a species endemic to the Sonoran desert. It is a compound derived from a secretion extracted from the glands of the Colorado River toad, one of the 463 species of frogs that exist in the world, but the only one that contains in its glands the neurotransmitter molecules Bufotenin, 5-Meo-DMT , a series of alkaloids used by users of psychoactive substances and that a decade ago was introduced into the community as ancestral medicine, with therapeutic purposes for healing various physical, emotional and spiritual ailments.
